Self Portrait; Artist's Brain
"... although we know a lot about the brain, we still have not found the mind"
Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo
Self Portrait; Artist’s Brain utilises the intricate, almost surgical process of contemplative embroidery to translate MRI images of my own brain. The technique takes time, it is meditative, methodical and rhythmic; a ‘slow art’ practice. The work is a study of endurance and an exploration of duality; chronicling the passage of time.
“a synchronous meeting of metaphysics, art, and science in the artist's life…
the cadent routine, matched the almost surgical discipline of her needlework”
